Beach Hazards Statement issued June 14 at 1:14AM PDT until June 16 at 3:00AM PDT by NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
AREAS AFFECTED: Ventura County Beaches; Malibu Coast; Los Angeles County Beaches; Palos Verdes Hills
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...A long period south swell will bring elevated surf up to 5-6 feet to south and southwest facing beaches, along with dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...Ventura County Beaches, Malibu Coast, Los Angeles County Beaches and Palos Verdes Hills. * WHEN...From 9 AM PDT this morning through late Sunday night. * IMPACTS...There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore.
INSTRUCTION: Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.

Hail is a form of precipitation which is recognized by large solid balls or
clumps of ice. Hail is created by thunderstorm clouds with strong updrafts of wind.
As the hailstones remain in the updraft, ice is deposited onto them until their
weight becomes heavy enough for them to fall to the earth's surface.
Hail storms can cause significant damage to crops, aircrafts, and man-made structures,
despite the fact that the duration is usually less than ten minutes.

A mammatus cloud is a cloud with a unique feature which resembles
a web of pouches hanging along the base of the cloud.
In the United States, mammatus clouds tend to form in the warmer months, commonly
in the Midwest and eastern regions.
While they usually form at the bottom of a cumulonimbis cloud, they can also form
under altostratus, altocumulus, stratocumulus, and cirrus clouds. Mammatus clouds
warn that severe weather is close.
